Prix de L’arc de Triomphe

France’s premier international horseracing event, the Prix de L’arc de Triomphe, also known as ‘The Arc’, was first run in 1920. The event always takes place on the first Sunday of October and owners and trainers gather from around the world every fall for Paris’ feature race. The 1 ½ mile event is open to three-year-olds and above and features the biggest purse in European racing, even more than Britain’s infamous Epsom Derby.

The event, much like Triple Crown races in the United States, is a showcase of wealthy, fashion, splendor. Royalty can regularly be seen among the spectators at Longchamp raceway watching future breeder make or break their fees, as The Arc is famous for producing champion studs and dams.
